Yo La Tengo

Yo La Tengo formed in Hoboken, New Jersey in 1984 around the married pair of Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley, with James McNew joining on bass in 1992 to complete the long-running lineup. Across albums such as I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One and And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out, the trio moves freely between feedback-drenched guitar workouts and hushed, melodic songwriting. Their annual multi-night Hanukkah benefit residency, built on surprise guests and comedians, has become a New York institution.
